Mrs. Debra Jensen, a naturalist and lay lactation coach, ironically found the yang to her yin in Scott Jensen, who at the time of their marriage was an allopathic mainstream medical student. Their match has burgeoned and blended through the last 19 years to result in a family of 6 children and a private medical practice. Together, Dr. Jensen and Debra own and operate Jensen Family Medicine, their subtitle being, “An Integrative Approach to Wellness.” Using functional, traditionally sourced and prepared foods coupled with an understanding of herbs, supplements, and modern medicine, Debra and Dr. Jensen are on a mission. Their purpose is to help families carve out their own unique path to health, thus empowering the next generation to triumph over the now crippling societal struggles of chronic illness, disorder, and disease.
Scott M. Jensen M.D.
Scott Jensen was born in Ogden, UT, but grew up in Arizona, first in Phoenix and then Mesa. After completing a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a double minor in Chemistry and Philosophy at Brigham Young University, Scott went on to attend the Medical College of Wisconsin, where he obtained his M.D. Degree. Debra Jensen
Debra Jensen grew up first in Las Vegas, NV and then Mesa, AZ. Since she was a young child, Debra had a passion for fine food. Growing up on a small family farm, her family used to jokingly say, “Debra doesn’t just eat, she dines.” To her, every meal is an occasion. From plant or pasture, to purchase, to plate, she has been fascinated by the process. Through her own life experiences, Debra gained an appreciation for our food’s life cycle and how it effects our own.
Her road to health wasn’t clearly marked. Debra began struggling with chronic tonsillitis, sinusitis, and fatigue early in her teenage years. During her first year of college she was stricken with a sudden onset of Guillain-Barré Syndrome. Unfortunately the diagnosis was missed, and Debra at 19 years old was discharged after a week in the hospital, still unable to walk more than a few exhaustive and painful steps at a time, with the hopeless label of “stress-induced Chronic Fatigue Syndrome” (later to be renamed Fibromyalgia). After spending three months bed and wheelchair-bound with no help from conventional medicine, Debra began what would become a lifelong pursuit, researching alternative therapies and natural approaches to health. Through diet, herbs, psychology, and supplementation, Debra fought her way back to health and studied Humanities, English, and Music at University of Arizona and then Brigham Young University.
